3D ART & SCIENCE TEAM SPOTLIGHT
BioDigital’s artists are recruited for both their artistic talent and their potential to think like scientists, storytellers and technologists. As scientific thinkers, we radically simplify and visualize complex datasets. As visual storytellers, we balance aesthetic goals with the learning objectives of our users. And as technologists, we push the limits of 3D art and animation. We love problem solving where art, design and technology intersect to bring human anatomy to life.
I feel like Dr. Frankenstein sometimes, bringing inanimate objects to life with our musculoskeletal rig, adding motion capture data, and combining that with the realistic material and lighting effects of our look development. When it all comes together, it can feel like magic...

We actually put all of these pieces together - a visually beautiful heart model, beating with a mathematically correct rhythm, filling and emptying based on pressure data from real datasets - to visualize something that only a handful of surgeons ever get to see in real life. We make that available to anyone - not just to look at, but to interact with in 3D so that they can really study a functioning heart.

ENGINEERING TEAM SPOTLIGHT
BioDigital’s engineering team is essentially developing a high performance video game - a 3D graphics simulation running at 60 frames per second...that runs in a browser. The content team builds the Human using the same 3D development techniques as the biggest animation studios and gaming companies in the world, and the engineering team makes it look just as good and run just as fast in any web or mobile browser, building all of the supporting infrastructure to enable that “game” to run on any device, everywhere, all the time.
Our web application is "alive." It's interactive and dynamic, putting you in a simulator with just your keyboard and mouse. We have to deliver high quality assets over the internet at reasonable download speeds, a unique and engaging set of challenges.

As product managers, we empathize with the diverse needs of millions of learners, educators and content creators, breaking new ground in 3D user experiences. We leverage the talents of engineers, artists and scientists to architect a seamless UX that empowers each of our end-users to more successfully teach and learn about health and the human body.
Our technology is cutting edge and therefore, the requirements we get are often loosely defined. We will ask our customers what their learning objectives are and then it's our job to use our technology to distill the information that needs to be communicated into a simple solution that meets those objectives.

We’re empowered to take a consultative approach to every sales conversation which means that we’re continuously learning as the organization does too. We have fun problem-solving collaboratively and celebrating bringing this new technology to market as a team.
We're still discovering new ways that our technology can be used. You start every call with a hypothesis about how a potential client will use our tech, but we have to really listen and be open to learning something new that might open up a new market or new opportunity or new use case for our product and our customers.
